<itunes:summary>The movement in favor of total prohibition of alcohol in the United States gradually emerged from the 19th-century temperance movement, which had urged moderation (and later complete abstinence) in the drinking of alcoholic beverages. Advocates believed criminal behavior could be linked to the consumption of alcohol.Prohibition came to receive such strident support that, in the years before World War I, 26 states had passed "dry laws." In 1920, the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified. It prohibited the sale, manufacture, or transportation of alcoholic beverages in order to eliminate the consumption of alcohol by the general public.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Prior to 1963, the movement to protect the nation's natural resources was known as the conservation movement. The term conservation has been defined as "the prevention of waste" of our natural resources. President Herbert Hoover defined conservation as having "an emphasis on the efficiency of use." The conservation movement, whose goals were to lobby for reform of the nation's laws and attitudes toward the environment and protect the nation's varied natural resources, can be broken down into four periods: 1731 to 1812, 1812 to 1864, 1864 to 1907, and 1907 to 1963.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Woodrow Wilson: Inaugural AddressOn March 4, 1913, newly inaugurated President Woodrow Wilson delivered this speech, his first of two inaugural addresses.“There has been a change of government. It began two years ago, when the House of Representatives became Democratic by a decisive majority. It has now been completed. The Senate about to assemble will also be Democratic. The offices of President and Vice-President have been put into the hands of Democrats. What does the change mean? That is the question that is uppermost in our minds to-day. That is the question I am going to try to answer, in order, if I may, to interpret the occasion.”</itunes:summary>
