This puppy weighs in at a respectable 18+ ABV and is continuously hopped for 120 minutes giving it an overpowering hop profile and a respectable IBU rating. I was scared to give it a try because having already tackled the 60 and 90 minute IPA I found Dogfish Head’s Hops profile to be a little to heavy on the citrus for my tastes (not to say that THAT should have any effect on what you like to crack open and drink). Nevertheless I was surprised yet again by the Dogfish Head team. This beer had a tolerable bitterness and hop profile and while the taste and aroma of citrus was definitely present, it didn’t over power the beer and cause me to think of things to keep talking rather than taking another sip. The overall quaff was very smooth and not near as harsh as the 60 or 90 IPA and having no formal rating system yet developed I decided to give this particular beer 90 points. The only drawback about this fine brew is that it costs 10 dollars a bottle retail but before you say “10 bucks, WTF Josh do you wipe your ass with five notes?” let me point out that you can be expected to pay as much as 6 dollars a beer in some brewpubs in the greater DC area and at 18% ABV this little doggie really is a six pack in a can.
